Show Jumping in a treeless saddle?
I love Show Jumping! And, I have heard great things about treeless saddles. I was wondering what type of treeless saddle would be best for jumping? I have a narrow-backed TB that moves quick and I need a secure saddle. Any suggestions?
I am on my second Barefoot treeless saddle and have been using them for 4 years now.
There is only one brand of treeless saddle that I have tried that would be acceptable for show jumping. And…. it’s very very expensive! It’s been almost 20 years since i tried one and the company was very new. At the time their saddles were underside like a soft leather pad wrapped around the horse with little wither clearance and none for the spine. I’m sure they’ve improved by now.

This is worth a try!!
Otherwise, you need to search for a treeless that specifically states a model for jumping. The stability of a treeless is not as good and a Breast Collar is a must for high fences. since you have so much weight in the stirrups when going over fences, the bars must have the weight spread evenly as not to irritate the horse! I know here in Europe, judges are curious about new saddles and riders more open to them.
Another option you have is a flexible Tree Saddle. I have a Vaquero saddle like this… feels like a normal one, but with give . The company makes a Very Good dressage saddle and is working on western and jumping models.
